Rust Minecraft Invasion

MW2 Rust survival against Minecraft mobs, with all 15 killstreaks, a quickscope class and a native Mac launcher. Requires your own MW2.

MW2 Rust survival against Minecraft mobs, all 15 killstreaks, quickscope class, and a native Mac launcher. Requires owned MW2 data. See the README below for details.

Rust Minecraft Invasion

A local survival crossover: Modern Warfare 2’s Rust map and weapons against a crowd of Minecraft mobs, including Ender Dragons, Withers and Wardens.

Download the Apple silicon Mac build · Release downloads · Source build

This is an experimental single-player mode built on 2010 Rust Rewrite Mashup, which builds on IW4L. It is a standalone native runtime that reads assets from a game installation you own. Call of Duty, Minecraft and other original game assets are not bundled.

Play on an Apple silicon Mac

Requirements: macOS 14 or later, Apple silicon, and the English Windows PC files for Modern Warfare 2 (2009), including the base game and multiplayer data. The 2022 game and Campaign Remastered are different products and cannot supply this map data. A folder installed through Steam/CrossOver is suitable. No Skyrim files are needed.

  1. Download the macOS-arm64.zip asset from Releases and extract it.
  2. Move Rust Minecraft Invasion.app to Applications, then open it. The app opens a launcher; it does not start a match.
  3. Click Choose MW2 Folder and select the folder containing main/ and zone/english/mp_rust.ff.
  4. Click Prepare Files. The game downloads the pinned Minecraft resources directly from Mojang and checks their hashes. This can take several minutes. No game window opens during preparation.
  5. Click Open Game Menu → Create Game → Rust Invasion → Rust, start the match, choose Intervention Quickscope, and select Equip.

The Mac build is ad-hoc signed, not Apple-notarized. If macOS blocks the downloaded app, follow Apple’s instructions for opening a trusted app. The app and these instructions do not disable Gatekeeper or remove quarantine attributes.

Check Setup verifies the executable and prepared files without starting a game. Settings, profiles, resources and logs live in ~/Library/Application Support/Rust Minecraft Invasion/0.8.0/. The selected MW2 installation is read-only. Close the game before moving the app or changing audio output devices.

The invasion

  • 67 mob/variant entries, two of each: 134 target enemies, with varied sizes and individual three-second respawns. Complete roster.
  • Creepers hiss, swell, flash and explode; retreating cancels their fuse. Explosions damage and push players/mobs without destroying Rust’s structures.
  • Skeletons use bows/arrows, spiders climb, Endermen teleport to checked positions, witches throw splash potions, and flying attackers use fireballs.
  • 300 player HP, 25% less mob health than the previous invasion build, and a brief 0.25-second interval between mob hits to limit crowd volleys.
  • Intervention Quickscope + Sleight of Hand Pro: twice-as-fast eligible reloads and scope transitions. The Intervention’s data gives 400 ms aim-in normally / 200 ms with Pro. Regular Sleight of Hand stays reload-only.
  • The existing invasion’s unlimited ammunition and bonus Intervention / SPAS-12 / UMP45 remain available.

Every standard MW2 killstreak, enabled together

No killstreak loadout selection is required. Your weapon and grenade kills unlock all rewards at each threshold, including both rewards when they share a cost. Rewards queue until you press D-pad Right / 4. Death resets your consecutive-kill count but retains earned rewards. Support kills and mobs killing each other do not farm more rewards.

4Care Package, Counter-UAV
5Sentry Gun, Predator Missile
6Precision Airstrike
7Harrier Strike, Attack Helicopter
8Emergency Airdrop
9Pave Low, Stealth Bomber
11Chopper Gunner, AC-130
15EMP
25Tactical Nuke

These are arena adaptations of the full standard reward roster, with custom support models/effects and targeting for Minecraft mobs. They do not reproduce all stock MW2 killstreak animations or cinematics. UAV reveals mobs on a radar; Counter-UAV disrupts ranged accuracy/range; EMP suppresses ranged attacks. Walk up to a landed supply crate to collect its reward and heal. Emergency Airdrop supplies four crates.

Predator, Chopper Gunner and AC-130 have player-controlled remote views. Your body is held still and protected from mob damage while controlling them. The AC-130 has 25 mm, 40 mm and 105 mm modes. The nuke counts down for ten seconds, clears the living mob population, heals you and restarts the reward ladder; the survival arena continues with respawns.

Build from source

The complete runtime, mob implementation, controller bridge, launcher and packaging source are in this repository. There are no private source submodules.

Install Rust (the repository pins the toolchain) and platform build dependencies from BUILD.md. On macOS, install Xcode Command Line Tools. Then:

git clone https://github.com/oh-ashen-one/rust-minecraft-invasion.git
cd rust-minecraft-invasion
cargo build --locked --profile play -p launcher -j 4
python3 invasion-launcher/package_macos.py

The packaging script creates dist/Rust Minecraft Invasion.app, a ZIP and SHA256SUMS.txt. It verifies code signatures and executes the binary’s help path; it does not launch a renderer or match. The packaged app does not need Python, Rust or this checkout on the player’s computer.

For a source run on macOS/Linux, choose a writable runtime directory and use absolute executable/data paths:

/path/to/iw4l prepare-invasion
IW4L_GAMES='/path/to/owned/MW2' IW4L_RUST_INVASION=1 IW4L_SKATE=off IW4L_UPDATE=0 /path/to/iw4l menu

Upstream Windows/Linux build paths remain available in BUILD.md and WINDOWS.md. This release includes a tested-to-load Apple silicon binary; this invasion version has not been runtime-tested on Windows, Intel Mac or Linux.

Verification and limitations

See VALIDATION.md for the release checks and their limits. This is an experimental public build. Compilation, focused simulation checks, actual Rust collision probes and fresh resource preparation passed. New killstreak visuals, live controller interactions, balance and rendered frame rate still need player feedback. No unattended match was started to claim a playtest.

The broad inherited make publish-check is not clean; it reports pre-existing address-shaped literals and test placement across upstream components. The invasion update added none of those findings. Temporary development probes were removed before publication under the repository test policy.

The launcher holds shared renderer locks, allows at most two renderer-bearing engines, and never closes another application or automatically restarts a crashed game. If launch fails, inspect logs/latest-launch.log under the runtime folder above. For setup failures, inspect logs/prepare.log. Please omit personal paths or account details when posting logs.

  1. v0.8.0 Rust Minecraft Invasion 0.8.0 — Killstreak Survival Pre-release 1
    Release notes

An experimental native Apple silicon build of MW2 Rust survival against Minecraft mobs, with the full standard killstreak ladder and a more forgiving balance pass.

    Download and play

Download Rust-Minecraft-Invasion-0.8.0-macOS-arm64.zip, extract it, move the app to Applications, and open it. Choose your owned English Windows MW2 (2009) installation folder, click Prepare Files, then Open Game Menu. Select Create Game → Rust Invasion → Rust → Intervention Quickscope → Equip.

The app prepares Minecraft resources directly from Mojang. No Call of Duty or Minecraft game archives, textures or sounds are bundled. The Mac build requires macOS 14+ and Apple silicon; Windows/Linux source paths remain in the repository but are not runtime-verified for this release. The app is ad-hoc signed, not Apple-notarized; see the README for normal macOS first-open instructions.

    Survival update

    • 300 player health, 25% less mob health, and a 0.25-second grace interval between incoming mob hits.
    • All fifteen standard MW2 rewards are enabled together: UAV; Care Package and Counter-UAV; Sentry Gun and Predator Missile; Precision Airstrike; Harrier Strike and Attack Helicopter; Emergency Airdrop; Pave Low and Stealth Bomber; Chopper Gunner and AC-130; EMP; Tactical Nuke.
    • Rewards unlock at the normal 3 / 4 / 5 / 6 / 7 / 8 / 9 / 11 / 15 / 25 kill thresholds, including both rewards at shared thresholds. No killstreak loadout selection.
    • D-pad Right / keyboard 4 deploys the next queued reward. Death resets the consecutive count but preserves earned rewards. Support kills do not create automatic reward loops.
    • Predator, Chopper Gunner and AC-130 have controllable remote views. R2 / left click fires or boosts the Predator; L2 / right click cycles AC-130 cannons; D-pad Right / 4 exits.
    • The nuke counts down for ten seconds, clears the arena and restarts the reward ladder. Mob respawns continue.

The 134-mob target population, varied sizes, individual respawns, creature abilities, native Mac controller input and Intervention / Sleight of Hand Pro class are retained. Killstreaks are custom arena adaptations with support geometry/effects for fighting Minecraft mobs, not complete reproductions of every stock animation or cinematic.

    Verification

Eighteen focused checks passed, including input decoding and headless HUD startup. All fifteen rewards passed CPU-only probes against the real Rust collision map, including remote camera clearance. Fresh resource preparation, optimized native compilation, signature checks and actual executable-loader checks passed. The release ZIP was checked for game archives, private paths and configuration files.

Live visuals, controller feel, combat balance and rendered FPS remain for player feedback. This release has not been automatically played or presented as a completed gameplay acceptance test. See VALIDATION.md for the inherited repository-check findings and other limits.

The complete source, upstream credits, Apache-2.0 license and dependency/font notices are included in the repository and packaged app as appropriate. Verify the download against SHA256SUMS.txt.
