How this site works

Where the list comes from, what the badges mean, how following and notifications work, and how to get a project listed.

Where the list comes from

  1. A crawler searches GitHub every few hours for passthrough mods, Rust rewrites, recomps and mashups, and scans forks of tracked projects for new ports (most ports start as forks).
  2. Everything it finds goes into a review queue. A moderator checks each one is real, not a lookalike or malware, before it's listed.
  3. You can submit anything it missed, including mods hosted outside GitHub.
  4. Once listed, each project is re-checked regularly: stars, releases, README and whether the repository still exists.

What the labels mean

LabelMeaning
PlayableThere's a download you can play. Set automatically when a GitHub release has files attached.
Source onlyThe code is public; you build it yourself.
In developmentBeing built, not playable yet.
Video / demoShown in a video, no public build.
UnverifiedA viral clip or claim nobody has been able to check.
ArchivedThe author stopped working on it.
RemovedThe repository was deleted or taken down (we say which).
VerifiedA moderator confirmed this is the genuine project and the links are official.
Host / GuestHost is the game you play in; guest is the game brought in. Rewrites and recomps show the game they rebuild.

Trending means the most new GitHub stars in the last seven days.

Following and notifications

Press ★ Follow on a project to get a notification (the bell, top right) when it ships a release, goes offline or comes back. Your followed projects' releases also appear under Updates → Only projects I follow. Prefer a feed reader or a Discord RSS bot? Every project has its own feed (link on its page), and /feed.xml covers everything.

Works for me

On each project page you can say whether it worked for you, with which mod and game versions. These reports are the quickest way to find out which versions are safe after a game update.

My games

On My games you tick the games you own (or import them from Steam). The home page and the Playable with my games filter then show what you can run right now. Your library is private.

Forum and requests

Every project can have a discussion thread, and the forum has sections for help, showcases and modding. The requests board is the community wish list: when someone builds a requested mashup, everyone who voted gets notified.

For developers

There's a free, read-only JSON API and Atom feeds, for Discord bots, launchers or mirrors.

What we don't do

We don't host mods or game files, run ads or sell your data. We link to each project's official source. See the privacy notice.
