# Fixing problems

Fusion tries to say what went wrong in plain words. Here are the common ones and what to do.

## Fusion doesn't start

- **"Windows protected your PC"** when installing: the installer isn't code-signed yet. Click
  **More info**, then **Run anyway**.
- **Your antivirus removed it or blocks it.** Some tools distrust a new program that starts and
talks to other programs. Restore it from quarantine and allow `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Fusion`,
then tell us which antivirus it was.
- **It closes right away.** The launcher saves a report in `%LOCALAPPDATA%\Fusion\crashes\`. If it
happened right after an update, accept its offer to go back to the version before.

## A game doesn't start, or stops

| Fusion says | What to do |
|---|---|
| **Not installed** | Install the game, or check it's in a Steam library Fusion can see. |
| **Needs setup** | Press **Set up** in My Games. |
| **close the game first** | Fusion starts games itself. Close the game, then press Play again. |
| **… left its crash reporter open** | A game that crashed can leave its crash reporter running, and Steam won't start the game again. Press **Close it**. |
| **Version mismatch** | The game updated and its router hasn't caught up. Wait for the router's update, or try a community router. |
| **anti-cheat is running** | The game's anti-cheat is on. Only its official offline mode works with Fusion. |
| **stopped** | The game closed or crashed. Fusion keeps running; press Esc and try again. Out of video memory? Close other programs (browsers use a lot). |

## It runs, but badly

- **Slow or stuttering:** two games share your graphics card. Press **F6** to see what each uses.
Fusion runs games you aren't looking at slower, and puts them to sleep when memory runs low.
- **The picture is a frame behind when you turn:** some games draw a little late; their router's
page on steonmod.com says how far behind it measured.
- **The picture is stretched:** make Fusion's window the same shape as the game's.

## Telling us what broke

Post in the [Help forum](https://steonmod.com/forum) with:

1. what you played (the scenario or Experience) and which games;
2. what Fusion said, word for word;
3. the crash report, if there is one (`%LOCALAPPDATA%\Fusion\crashes\`), and Fusion's version
(the bar at the bottom of the Library).

Turning on **Settings → Compatibility reports** helps everyone: router makers see which game
versions work.

## Questions

**Do I need Steam?** Not for Fusion. Your games may need it to start.

**Is it free?** Yes. Fusion and routers are free, always.

**Can I play online with friends?** Not yet. Fusion is for single-player games, and multiplayer
fusions aren't built.

**Does it work on Linux, Mac or Steam Deck?** Not yet: Windows only for now.

**Why is the app called Fusion and the site SteonMod?** SteonMod is the project; Fusion is the app.
The final names may change.
